Cool Designs Ltd win ACR News Product Distributor of the Year 2011

March 2011 saw Cool Designs Ltd pick up the award for Product Distributor of the Year. There may have been a number of reasons why Cool Designs were selected over others, but we believe it is our environmental policies, commitment to training and stance on legislation and backing of Refcom that really stands us out on our own.

Winning this year was reward for the whole teams commitment in putting our policies into practice and doing so with the support of our customers.

Backing REFCOM and F-Gas Legislation

REFCOM has applauded the actions of suppliers of refrigeration and air conditioning who are refusing to do business with companies and installers who are not F-gas registered.

Sunderland-based air conditioning distributor Cool Designs Ltd, has informed Refcom it is refusing to sell air conditioning systems or spares to businesses that are not F-gas registered. Cool Designs md, Darrel Birkett, said “We believe that manufacturers, wholesalers and agents have a responsibility and duty of care to ensure that only those who are registered with Refcom, or other certification bodies, are allowed to handle, install or repair their equipment.

“As a matter of policy, we will not sell to any business that can’t provide evidence of being F-Gas registered, and I believe this should be a requirement by law. Our policy is not negatively affecting our sales – if anything, it’s marked us out as being committed to high professional standards.”

“Supplying only to F-Gas registered companies and contractors is a great demonstration of professionalism and environmental responsibility,” said Refcom secretary Steve Crocker.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if air conditioning manufacturers were looking at this policy, too. Our industry has often been ahead of the legislators in recognising the need to do our bit to fight climate change – that’s currently being demonstrated by the success of the Refcom Elite voluntary scheme, which requires higher standards than those stipulated by the F-Gas regulations and demonstrates a commitment to best practice in refrigerant handling.”

A Question of Giving

We were very proud to once again support the Evening Chronicle Sunshine Fund Question of Sport Dinner. Two teams were entered by Cool Designs and a marked improvement ensured that neither came last this year. On the night the charity itself raised nearly £37,000 which is a fantastic achievement and a credit to the hard work put in to arrange such events. The money raised will be used to provide essential equipment and learning aids for sick and disabled children in the North East, to improve their quality and enjoyment of life.

Toshiba SMMSi Launch Road Show

Toshiba Air Conditioning have announced dates of their European road show to introduce their new groundbreaking VRF technology. Some of the features we know of include increased pipe runs and flexibility, COP’s of up to 4.68 and redesigned condensing units that include 3 inverter compressors and a reduced footprint.

CDL Sponsor All Stars v Hollyoaks

We were proud once again to sponsor this years activities by the All Star Charity XI, raising funds for the Wingate Centre in Cheshire. The most recent event was the annual football match against a Hollyoaks side. The All Star team ran out 1-0 winners at the match held at Nantwich Town Stadium early in September.

Toshiba in partnership with Envirotech have launched an energy efficient range of Heat Pump air curtains to suit a wide range of environments from offices and retail outlets through to commercial applications.

Heat Pump technology provides an effective method of transferring heat from the atmosphere to where it is most needed, using the least possible power to drive the system. Air Curtain applications with DX heating are easily dealt with using Toshiba Digital Inverter outdoor units.

With Toshiba’s unique Twin Rotary Compressor Technology and extremely efficient Hybrid Inverter Compressors, these units make a very cost effective solution providing excellent COP’s.

New Toshiba High Static Duct

Toshiba launch new High Static Duct. We now have these new models in stock, rated at 22kW & 27kW. They have a maximum external static pressure of 196 Pa, though 3 settings are available. Utilising the existing large DI outdoors, this gives these systems a very small footprint at only 1.7M2.

The indoor dimensions are : H470 x W1380 x D1250 mm and give airflows on high fan of 3600 & 4200 m3/hr (1000 & 1167 l/s). As you would expect from a Toshiba product, the systems have leading energy efficiencies with COP’s of up to 3.45.

2010 Sees the introduction of the next in the series of Toshiba VRF. The first product due is the new range of Heat Pump VRF condensing units later this year. Little known about exactly what breakthrough’s Toshiba have accomplished but we have found that that these systems will include three inverter compressors. Toshiba made an industry first by making their current VRF fully inverter with each module including two inverter compressors with the ability to isolate each individual compressor if needed. More on this as we hear it!
